Retiro is well-known as one of the most characteristic neighborhoods of the city of Buenos Aires. Its wide squares, its stately residences, its luxury hotels, and its office towers make up a mosaic where the present and the past of the city converge.

Retiro Station is located just opposite to Plaza San Martín. It is the second largest railway complex and the principal long-distance bus terminal in Buenos Aires. This French-style building was designed by British architects and was inaugurated in 1915. For many years it was considered one of the finest buildings in the world as well as a benchmark of structural engineering in South America. It has also been declared a national monument.

Every year, thousands of tourists visit San Martin’s square -one of the oldest in the city-, the setting for many important historical events, and the commercial Florida Street. The neighborhood includes an office area bordering the area known as the City, financial center of Buenos Aires, and another one with a markedly residential profile with high class buildings that is often considered part of the informal Barrio Norte.
